Mark Reader - Mental Health Lived Experience Consultant -

I work with mental health services to bring an adult lived-experience perspective to improving the quality of care.

I can help services understand what care feels like from the patient and family side - identifying practical problems, communication gaps and things that may be missed by formal processes.

I offer:

• independent, constructive feedback,
• patient and family liaison,
• and a willingness to ask difficult questions where that can improve people's experience of care.

My approach combines lived experience with analytical and practical skills: listening carefully, understanding systems, identifying what is going wrong, and helping services work out what could be done better.

I worked for 20 years in research at the University of Cambridge. I have 11 peer reviewed publications, and a total of 33 research outputs listed on Google Scholar. I also have personal experience of serious mental illness and mental health services.
